Regulation 9: Fire Precautions and Means of Egress

This regulation regulates fire precautions and fire escapes.

Compliance Obligations?

Emergency escape doors must open outwards and all exits must be kept free of obstructions to ensure rapid escape in the event of an emergency.

Staircases and steps must be equipped with adequate handrails and staircases which are used as a fire escape must comply with the requirements of sub-regulation (1)(e)(i) – (iii).

You must provide adequate fire-fighting equipment on site and such equipment must be kept in good working order.
